Many adult readers in our church have enjoyed books written by Jan Karon, Karen Kingsbury and Max Lucado. Did you know these three authors have also written wonderful books for children?
We have several children’s books written by Lucado including YOU ARE SPECIAL. The characters in this book are wooden people created by the woodcarver, Eli. When one of the wooden figures named Punchinello fails to find anything special about himself, Eli helps him to understand that regardless of how the world evaluates us, God cherishes each of us just as we are.
Kingsbury book FAR FLUTTERFLY is written in rhyme style and is about a caterpillar who finds life to be boring and wishes for more. God has a plan filled with wonderous things and the caterpillar learns that through hard times come wings. This book is beautifully illustrated.
Jan Karon’s book MISS FANNIE’S HAT is a book about faith and the rewards of unselfish love through the story of Miss Fannie who has 99 hats. The adventure begins when she donates one hat to a church auction.
A favorite of mine is Karon’s book THE TRELLIS AND THE SEED. In this tale, the moonflower seed is sometimes discouraged because it is different from the other seeds in the garden. You’ll learn that faith, love, patience and beauty can convince us that God made us special. I read this book every summer when the moonflowers near the front entrance of our church begin to bloom.
Children and adults will enjoy reading these books. Stop in the church library to check them out.
See you in the library this summer!
