Pastor Jon Splichal Larson
Alleluia! Christ is risen! Yes, indeed.
We are in the Easter season and have only recently experienced the journey of Jesus through Holy Week…Palm Sunday to Maundy Thursday to Good Friday to Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday. And, I am entirely grateful to be a part of a faith community that takes this journey.
One faith moment I wanted to share with you: Worship attenders were welcomed forward to have their feet washed on Maundy Thursday as we heard the story of Jesus washing his disciples’ feet follow the last supper. It’s a powerful experience to both wash feet and have your feet washed. A family of five (2 parents and 3 young children) came forward. The parents’ feet were washed, the eldest daughter feet were washed, the middle child was a little hesitant, and then came the youngest child’s feet. He is less than a year old, not yet able to walk…the father slipped the child’s shoes and socks off and Pastor Sylvia proceeded to wash those tiny feet.
The young baby boy giggled, the two older sisters laughed, and the parents smiled. The father glanced at me mouthing the word “Baptism.” The young baby boy will soon be baptized at Faith Lutheran Church, surrounded by his parents, his two older sisters, his sponsors and family and our community.
What a powerful moment! We as a church community welcomed that young family, care for the children in church school, and prepare to offer the sacrament of baptism. We love and support those parents, striving to give them worship and resources to help them grow in faith as a family rooted in the love of Christ.
For this moment, this family, this community, and these opportunities of faith…I am grateful! We get to care for people. We get to share in the sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion. We get to educate and inspire people in the faith. In the Easter season, we proclaim the resurrected Christ alive. We get to live in the power of the resurrection.
Thank you for supporting and being a part of this ministry!
Sunday/Wednesday of Thanks!
On Sunday, April 30 and Wednesday, May 3, we will gather in worship for a time of gratitude. Thank you for your generosity and for the many ways you support the ministry and mission of Faith Lutheran Church.
